What is involved in bee colony removal?
Reviewed by the Wasp Control Victoria team
A hive that has settled in is a whole working colony: a queen, many thousands of workers, brood in the cells and a store of honey, all fixed to wax sheets inside a cavity. Taking it out properly means handling every one of those, not only the bees at the doorway.
First the colony is treated at its entrance and left a day for the foragers to spread the product. On the return trip we open the lining, soffit, roof sheet or hollow over the wax, lift the sheets out, bag the wax and honey, scrape the space clean and close it.
Why go to that trouble? Without bees fanning it, the wax softens in a Victorian summer, honey soaks into timber and plaster, ants and wax moth move in, and the smell advertises a ready home to every passing swarm.

Looking for beekeeper hive removal?
Plenty of people type beekeeper removal, or beekeeper removal near me, the day they discover a hive, but we are not beekeepers. Here is where we fit.
What we do
Pest control. For bee hive removal victoria wide, that means the colony is treated and the hive is taken out in full. We are upfront that we do not keep bees or shift hives elsewhere.
Who else to ask
A registered beekeeper, rather than a pest controller, is worth a call if a small swarm is sitting low and out in the open. A hive fixed inside your house is building work.
Which part gets opened
Whichever of plaster, cladding, soffit or roof sheet reaches the wax with the least fuss. You approve the spot before a saw comes out.
Making good afterwards
Minor openings we patch ourselves. Bigger plaster or cladding repairs get their own price, or your own trade can finish them.
How a bee hive grows inside a house
The longer a colony stays, the more wax and honey there is to remove. This is roughly how it builds up in a Victorian home.
- 1First weeks: a new colony builds a few hand sized sheets of wax near the entry.
- 2First summer: sheets hang the full height of the stud bay and honey is being stored.
- 3Second year: the wax spreads sideways into neighbouring bays or along the ceiling.
- 4Left longer: old comb darkens, drips in hot weather and the colony may swarm from the same spot each spring.

Bee nest removal you can hold us to
Bees only return to a cleared space if wax was missed or the way in was left open. Both are on us, so the closed gap carries a full year of cover, with pictures of the cleared cavity on your invoice.
A new colony in another part of the house is a separate job. We will point to the likely spots so you can close them before swarm season.
- Photos of the cleared space
- Cover terms written down
- No renewal fee
Keeping the next bee hive out
A few cheap fixes make the house much less tempting to next season's swarms.
Clip covers into the weep holes on the wall that was used.
Cap or cowl any chimney that is no longer lit.
Fill the joint where the soffit meets the brick.
Pack gaps around pipes and cables where they pass into the wall.
Look at that wall again each spring.
Scouts inspecting a gap? Ring before the rest of the swarm follows.
Beehive removal FAQs
When did you first notice the bees? That single fact tells us most about the size of the job.
Call 0435 073 966How much does beehive removal victoria cost?
Our standard cut out is from $495 including GST. Flues, second storey walls and oversized hives are from $895. You agree the figure before anything is opened.
Is there bee hive removal near me in regional towns?
Yes. Bendigo, Ballarat, Geelong and the Yarra Valley are all served, along with metro Melbourne.
Could beekeeper removal save the hive?
Possibly, if it is a loose swarm outside. Once a hive is built into a wall or roof, it becomes a building job, which is where we come in.
Is beekeeper hive removal cheaper?
Not usually for a hive in a building. Opening, clearing and closing the cavity costs the same whoever does it.
How do you remove honey bees from house cavities?
To remove honey bees from house walls we treat first, wait a day, open the lining over the wax, lift every sheet out, clean the space and seal the way in.
Why does all the wax need to come out?
Old comb goes soft in the heat, drips honey, feeds pests and smells like home to new swarms.
Can you tell how big the hive is from outside?
Roughly. Traffic, warm spots, stains and how long the bees have been there all help us judge it.
How big is the hole you cut?
Only big enough to reach every sheet, and always in a spot you agree to first.
Can we keep the honey?
No. Honey from a treated colony is not safe, so it is bagged and removed with the wax.
Do you do honey bee removal from trees?
Yes. Honey bee removal from a hollow trunk is treated, cleared as far as we can reach, then the opening is blocked.
Is bee nest removal covered?
Yes. The gap we close carries twelve months of cover.
