Removing bees from wall cavities, explained
Reviewed by the Wasp Control Victoria team
A colony in a wall hangs its wax from the top plate between two studs and uses a weep hole, a vent or a cladding gap as its front door. We treat the bees at that door in the late afternoon, when the foragers are back.
A day or two later, once the traffic has stopped, we open the wall from whichever face causes least damage. That is often a strip of plaster in a wardrobe or behind furniture, sometimes a cladding board outside. All the wax comes out, the bay is cleaned and the entry is closed.
Chimneys follow the same pattern. The colony is treated, the wax is reached from the fireplace or the top of the flue, and a cap goes on so the next swarm cannot use it.

Can you remove bees from house walls without cutting in?
The bees can be treated from outside, but the wax cannot be removed. Wax left in the bay is what causes stains, smells and repeat colonies.
How do you remove bees from house wet areas?
To remove bees from house bathrooms and kitchens we usually open the other side of the wall or go in from outside, so no tiles are broken.
Why are bees coming out of a power point?
They are following the cable run from the colony in that wall. Keep the room shut and do not tape the outlet; call us.
Is bees in chimney removal different to a wall?
The steps are the same but the access is harder, so it is priced higher. The flue is capped afterwards.
Can I light the fire after a bee hive in chimney is removed?
Yes, once the wax is out and the flue has been checked. Burning with wax still inside can start a flue fire.
Will honey stain the plaster?
It can, especially in summer. Removing the wax soon after treatment is the best protection.
Do you fix the wall afterwards?
We close small openings ourselves. Bigger patches are priced separately or left for your own plasterer.
